Day Four FISA Candid Shots Launch and Trailer
The 2005 FISA World Masters Rowing Regatta was held in Scotland. The 2006 regatta is only the second time the regatta was hosted by the United States. The first FISA Regatta in the United States was held in Miami, Florida in 1991.

Day Four FISA Singles, Pairs and Doubles
Rowing boats (or similar vessels) have been around for centuries, but before the 18th century, there is little mention of boat races. In the 13th century, Venetian festivals called regata included boat races among others. Nowadays, rowing competitions are still called regattas (with a second 't' added).

Day Four FISA Fours, Quads & Eights
One piece of equipment commonly used when training for rowing is the "indoor rower" (a.k.a. "ergometer", "ergo", "erg machine" or "erg"). Erging has become popular as a sport in its own right with numerous indoor competitions (and the annual World Championship CRASH-B Sprints in Boston) during the winter off-season.

In 1843 the first U.S. collegiate boat club was organized at Yale (May 24). In 1844, the first boat club was organized at Harvard. In 1849, Henry David Thoreau published A WEEK ON THE CONCORD AND MERRIMACK RIVERS, the chronicle of a trip with his brother in an oared boat in 1839; numerous journals of oared travels appeared over the next four decades, culminating in the classic THREE MEN IN A BOAT, published by Jerome K. Jerome in 1889.
One continuing legacy of the maritime past is gig racing, wherein fast rowing boats ("gigs") with crews of 6 (or in one case, 7) race between the main islands. Gig racing is said to derive from the race to collect salvage from ships wrecked on the rocks around Isles of Scilly off the English Coast.
